Folk Bands

Alison plays in many ceilidh and concert bands every year – here are just a few of them…

Bristol Ceilidh Quartet

A funky, folky string quartet, with a repertoire of mostly English tunes and a unique dancey sound. We are: Alison Rowley, Matt Norman, Nonny Tabbush and Sarah Moody. Festival appearances have included: Cambridge Folk Festival, Towersey Festival, Sidmouth Folk Week and Broadstairs Folk Week.

“One of the most energetic and percussive ceilidh bands playing anywhere right now- their gigs are unmissable.” – Ed Barrow, Bristol Ceilidh

Mrs Trevor’s Deep Freeze Secrets

Mrs Trevor’s Deep Freeze Secrets (formerly Run of the Mill) is a group of trad musicians brought together by happy circumstance in the University town of Cambridge. They made their first recording in an underground kitchen on Jesus Lane and have been going strong ever since. They were finalists in the 2007 New Roots Competition and have performed at folk clubs and festivals around the country, including supporting Martin Carthy, Tim Van Eyken and Andy Irvine, as well as Leigh Folk Festival, Durham’s Streets of Folk day and at the Headland Folk Festival in Hartlepool. They are also available as a ceilidh band.

Arrow And Bow

You can now book Alison to play for ceilidh dancing at weddings and other celebrations, in a fiddle-based duo called Arrow and Bow. She works regularly with a number of professional guitarists and pianists, so with their rhythmic energy and Alison’s lively fiddle playing you won’t be able to resist heading onto the dancefloor! We’ll also provide an experienced caller to teach the dances.

The Lilting Banshees

An Irish duo consisting of vocalist and mandolist Richard Chapman and fiddle player Alison Rowley, performing covers of well-known traditional songs. They have a monthly residency at Seamus O’Donnell’s in Bristol.

Csus4 Ceilidh Band

The South West version of the Cunning Plan – just as much energy and the same great tunes, but with a lineup of local talent. Our typical lineup is fiddle, flute/whistles, guitar, bodhran and caller. Foot-stomping guaranteed!
